Big Magic

by Elizabeth Gilbert

The subtitle of this book is "creative living beyond fear," but you don't need to be a creative person to benefit from reading it. Big Magic offers remedy to many of the fears that hold us back in our day-to-day lives, giving us the courage to break through self-doubt and pursue what makes us happy.

The Book Of Joy

by The Dalai Lama & Desmond Tutu

If cultivating joy and compassion is on your to-do list, you cannot go wrong with the simple wisdom of these two great leaders. It's impossible to deny that these two souls have faced a lot of hardship in their lives, but their childlike energy is a promise to us all that suffering is not the only choice. This book is easy to read, and purely uplifting. It also contains a section of meditation exercises in the back, so you can take the teachings of these men out of the pages and into the real world.

Present Over Perfect

by Shauna Niequist

β€œIt's easy to be liked by strangers. It's very hard to be loved and connected to the people in your home when you're always bringing them your most exhausted self and resenting the fact that the scraps you're giving them aren't cutting it.”

If you are a go-go-go-getter and struggle with slowing down and being truly present, Shauna is your girl. She is also deeply spiritual (the book leans heavily towards the Catholic faith) so if you are looking for a book that encompasses those beliefs, this is a good one.
